SANTA MONICA – April 28, 2005, after months of efforts to meet with the President of Santa Monica College to address the issue of military recruiters on campus, frustrated students and local community activists marched into the offices of the school district this Thursday. After some time the president did emerge from his office to speak with the students. The exchange was not without substance and some points were addressed. At one point police did appear and were asked to wait outside by the president. There were no arrests. After about 15 to 20 minutes of discussion the students left peacefully.

Call to Action to the Progressive Community of Los Angeles,
Students, community members and activists have been fighting to ban military recruiters from Santa Monica College. We have written letters to the administration, and helped to organize a walk-out against the war and against military recruiters. Even with over 600 signatures from students alone, the administration has done nothing to limit the military's access to the school.
Tom Donner, President of Santa Monica College wrote us a letter washing his hands of any responsibility to the indignation of students, faculty and Santa Monica community to military recruitment. He is also apparently a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and is hoping to have this enemy of workers, women, and education speak at the 2005 graduation. All this while our tax dollars and tuition keep Tom Donner employed! We are calling on the people of Santa Monica to protest in front of President Tom Donner's office! Remind him that either he does what the students want or we don't want him!

Meet Thursday April 28th @1pm at the corner of Pico and Stewart in Santa Monica (in front of the 99 Cent Store ) to walk to Donner's office. Progressive Alliance-Community Action Committee. Full story: by Josh

Peace Activist Campaigns for Nonmilitary Options in Schools
Activist Orlando Terrazas and ACLU attorney Ranjana Natarajah are seeking equal exposure for nonmilitary options in the Whittier Union High School District. They have substantiated their request to school officials by invoking a state federal appellate court ruling which has established that the First Amendment gives rights for equal access of pro-armed force messages and dissenting points of view. Reclaiming May Day, the Real Labor Day, not a BBQ Day
US businesses and their allies in the government have somewhat succeeded in marginalizing the “subversive” May Day which continues to grow all over the world but ironically not as much in the US where this worker celebration started. To sabotage this leftist day, seen as a threat to businesses, US government officials first displaced Labor Day far away in the calendar, in September. Then after recognizing that their subterfuge didn’t work, as a final blow, they renamed May Day as the Loyalty Day--a conservative holiday. But despite all of these devious tactics, adamant American and immigrant workers have not given up. May First, 2005, they will march in several cities all across the USA.
