With the support of SAG, local Teamsters and SEUL, the Film & Television Action Coalition will be hosting a rally this Sunday, 1PM at the Hollywood Bowl. The event is in support of their countervailing tariff proposal. The proposal is that in response to the $1,000,000 subsidy that Canada gives to media corporations to produce in Canada, the US- through the Department of Commerce- should excise a $1,000,000 tariff. All this towards keeping union jobs in Hollywood.

Pitted against powerful management unions like DAG, and organizations like the Motion Pictures Association of America, the coalition has a tough fight. They are asking supporters to sign a petition that has reportedly received 10,000 signatures.

Read IMC Reporter John Hays' note on the Runaway Production issue.

In a related note, check out this little bit on Bush's nominee to the National Labor Relations Board

Hey, 11AM this Saturday at the Loyola Law School, there is talk on all the tasty civil liberties ramifications in post-S11 USA. Speakers from the Southern California ACLU, Refuse and Resist Network and others represent. Click here for more info.

Stick around at Loyola after Refuse and Resist for Every Mother's a Working Mother and the Wages for Housework Campaign's forum on "Invest in Caring not Killing." It will be held from 1:00-5:30 pm. There's even a Peace and Justice Camp for your kids.

And whoah, finally, click here for more info to find out about a lecture given Saturday at 3 PM by anti-war activist Larry Holmes-

Who Are The Brain Police???
Lynne Cheney & Joe Lieberman, that's who! In 1995 they co-founded an organization now known as the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA). ACTA has recently produced a report "Defending Civilization: How Our Universities Are Failing America, and What Can Be Done About It." It cites 117 nefarious examples showing that "colleges and university faculty have been the weak link in America's response to the attack." These include statements like "[We should] build bridges and relationships, not simply bombs and walls," and "An eye for an eye leaves the world blind." The original report, which named almost all the people cited, has been removed from ACTA's website, but is still available here. Stories:
