Los Angeles 2005: New Leaders, New Hopes
Progressives celebrate new leadership. Los Angeles, a longtime conservative stronghold, now has one of the most progressive mayors and city councils in the nation. This new leadership inherits a city in transition, a city whose services are at the breaking point, struggling to keep pace with the demands of unrestrained growth. A city still facing the deeply rooted problems that it has become famous for; racial tensions, affordable housing, traffic gridlock and air pollution. But for now the honeymoon is in full swing and for those who want to chart a new path for Los Angeles perhaps a door has opened.

South Central Farmers are about to lose the gardens which they use to grow and harvest vegetables and fruits. These gardens were created 12 years ago by the Los Angeles Food Bank and temporarily given to low income inner-city residents who use the gardens to feed their families and supplement their small paychecks by selling their produce. The farmers are asking city officials to retain the land and to find another location for the warehouses that the developers want to build. They urge the community to help them by signing their petition, here.
